The Ebola virus is one of the most dangerous types of virus worldwide. The Ebola fever caused by the virus, or Ebola for short, is manifested by greatly increased body temperatures and bleeding (hemorrhagic fever), and there may also be body aches, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. The incubation period is up to three weeks, but often only a few days. A vaccine from the pharmaceutical company Merck has been in existence for a few years; by the end of 2018, around 50,000 people had been provided with the preparation.

A standardized, effective form of therapy is currently not known. The virus is transmitted via body fluids, mainly from person to person, for example via saliva (droplet infection), blood or sperm. The virus takes its name from the Congolese river Ebola, where it first appeared. In the Central African Republic, the second largest outbreak to date occurred in 2018, killing many hundreds of people. Even if this epidemic did not reach the size of the largest so far in 2014 in West Africa with around 11,000 deaths, it clearly shows the ongoing explosiveness of the topic.
Not least because of the dramatic course of the disease, Ebola is one of the most dangerous epidemics worldwide, even if outbreaks are rare and the ...
