Almost every woman suffers from cellulite to a greater or lesser extent. Although this is medically harmless, it is a cosmetic problem for many people affected, which is why attempts are constantly being made to fight the dents on the legs, stomach and buttocks with all possible strength. But the so-called "orange peel" is often very stubborn and can only be removed with difficulty, which is why extremely athletic and slim people are also affected. However, it is possible to influence the shape of the dents and thereby increase personal well-being. We show you which home remedies for cellulite can be used simply and effectively to do something good for your body both from the outside and from the inside.

What causes cellulite?

At least 80 percent of women show the typical "orange peel dents" on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen or upper arms in different forms. Cellulite is not a medical problem, but a completely natural phenomenon of the female body - which is why men are usually not affected. This is due to certain anatomical conditions, because women have significantly thinner skin than men. In addition, the connective tissue is less pronounced in them because it has to be more stretchable so that it is not damaged by pregnancy.

In addition, there is a different fat distribution: While men put on fat especially on the belly ("beer belly"), extra pounds usually accumulate on the hips, buttocks and thighs in women. Due to the loose connective tissue, the often enlarged fat cells in women are pushed up faster and finally show up in the form of dents on the skin surface. Even women who have always been very slim are not protected against cellulite if they have weak connective tissue. In most cases this is genetic, which is why a mother with strong orange peel increases your own risk considerably.

Avoid risk factors

Even if almost every woman is affected to a greater or lesser extent, there are some factors that can promote the formation of the orange peel. These include, for example, a genetic predisposition, overweight, lack of exercise, low blood pressure, venous diseases, circulatory disorders or hormonal changes. Water retention in the legs also contributes to the visual appearance of cellulite. Accordingly, it is helpful, for example with regard to hereditary aspects for your own well-being, to accept the typical “women's problem” in a certain form. In other areas, however, the form in which the unsightly dents appear can be strongly influenced. A combination of exercise, healthy eating and external use is usually considered to be particularly effective, whereby various home remedies for cellulite can be used in a supportive and effective manner.

Proper nutrition

In order to minimize the annoying orange peel, a balanced, healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables is essential. However, rapid weight loss should be avoided, since experience has shown that the fat is stored again all the more quickly after such a "crash diet". Since cellulite also arises as a result of overacidification of the body, care should be taken to minimize acidic foods such as alcohol, coffee, highly sweetened beverages (soft drinks, lemonades), animal protein, fatty foods such as chips or chips, and white flour, rice, To eat pasta and sugar. Sugar destabilizes the cell walls in the connective tissue. If you really want to get rid of cellulite, sugar intake should be kept as low as possible.

Instead, it is advisable to switch the diet to basic foods as much as possible, which strengthens the structure and function of the connective tissue. The foods that have a high silicon content are particularly valuable. More on the effects of silicon can be found here. On the one hand, this trace element supports the strengthening and flexibility of the connective tissue and also has a high water retention capacity. This increases the elasticity of the skin and metabolic products are better removed. Potatoes, corn, millet, carrots and beans as well as apricots and cherries are particularly suitable.

In general, a lot of fresh, ripe fruit and vegetables with a high vitamin C content (ascorbic acid) should be eaten. Because this is indispensable for the production of collagen, an essential organic component of the connective tissue and the skin. For example, rose hips, sea buckthorn berries, peppers, citrus and berry fruits, as well as broccoli, Brussels sprouts and potatoes are considered to be particularly rich in vitamin C.

Helpful drinks

In addition to a healthy diet, sufficient drinking is particularly important in the fight against unsightly dents. The rule of thumb here is about 2.5 to 3 liters of water or unsweetened tea. So much should be drunk to flush waste and toxins out of the body and to make the skin look plump. Fruit juices or soft drinks such as cola, fanta etc. are not suitable, however, because cellulite is further promoted by the high sugar content.

A basic detox tea can serve well. For this, a teaspoon of nettle and field horsetail are scalded with boiling water and left covered for ten minutes. The tea is then strained and drunk three to four times a day. In addition to this, there are numerous other detoxifying teas that can also be used to prevent cellulite.

Movement is essential

If you want to fight the dents on your skin, you can't avoid sport. Because the body lacks movement, this leads to a relaxation of the muscles and poor blood circulation. Those who exercise regularly, on the other hand, activate the metabolism and thus enable faster detoxification and thus a firmer connective tissue. A combination of endurance and strength training is ideal, because while jogging, swimming or cycling, for example, stimulates fat burning, muscles are built up through strength exercises and the connective tissue is tightened. In combination with exercise, a detox can also help.

Effective exercises

A good exercise for cellulite is, for example, squats to tighten the buttocks and legs. This should be done slowly with a straight back, with the feet hip-width apart. The arms are stretched forward, while the abdomen and buttocks remain tense. Another effective butt exercise is carried out in the so-called "four-footed stand". For this you go "on all fours" on the floor, with upper and lower arms forming a right angle and head and back in a straight line. Now, when you exhale, first stretch your left leg backwards and slowly lower it again as you inhale. Then the exercise is performed with the second leg and repeated a total of about ten times on each side.

To fight cellulite on the stomach, so-called "crunches" can be a very effective exercise. For this, lie down on your back and arms are folded behind your head. The legs should be positioned so that the thighs and lower legs form approximately a right angle. Now the hands are placed on the temples and the upper body is slowly rolled up with the help of the abdominal muscles, however, in contrast to the classic "sit-ups", this does not completely straighten up. Instead, a few centimeters are sufficient while maintaining muscle tension.

Then you return almost to the starting position, with the lower back not completely resting on the floor to maintain muscle tension. After about 15 repetitions, you pause for about a minute. In total, beginners should do three series of the exercise. In the further course of the training, it is advisable to further increase the sets and repetitions. In general, however, sufficient breaks and relaxation should always be ensured so as not to overload the body and to maintain the fun of training.

Train fascia

The ugly daggers on the skin are more visible the harder the fascia (i.e. tendons, ligaments and connective tissue) are. Fortunately, the fascia can be massaged with a kind of foam roller. This loosens adhesions and hardening in these body fibers. The blood circulation is also improved and the fluid supply to the tissue is increased overall. These processes can store important collagen for new skin formation and accelerate the detoxification of toxins. Every day, the tissue is carefully rolled with pressure over the affected areas, each for three minutes for the buttocks, thighs and thighs. Before that, some stretching exercises are recommended for the affected muscles. After rolling the fascia, a ten-minute strength training session is worthwhile. Squats and lunges - the next day then three sets of pushups (as many repetitions as possible) and ten minutes of fixed rope jumping. This tightens the skin and enormously increases mobility in the lower body, after three weeks of training at the latest you can see the first successes.

Massages against the dents

A regular massage can be an effective means of support. Because this improves blood circulation and stimulates the metabolism, which releases toxins and waste products in the body and makes them easier to excrete. For the best possible effect, the application should not be too gentle, but should be carried out vigorously to stimulate the lower layers of the skin.

Plucking massage

A simple and effective method is the so-called "plucking massage", in which the skin is gradually clamped between the thumb and forefinger, raised and then released. The areas on the legs are worked on one after the other until the warmth can be felt everywhere due to the increased blood circulation.

Firming massage

Alternatively, it is advisable to massage the affected areas in a circular manner, for example with a sisal glove, a massage roller or a loofah sponge, to promote blood circulation and tighten the skin. The effect is enhanced when an oil is used, which also facilitates massage of the skin and ensures an adequate supply of fat and moisture.

Cupping massage

With a so-called cupping glass, the affected regions of the body can be gradually treated themselves. The treatment should be done every day, and convincing results can be seen after just a few weeks. The skin including connective tissue is optimally supplied with blood, small dents disappear after repeated use. To do this, the skin is circled in small circles. The repeated slight negative pressure leads the blood through all skin layers. The next day there may be little bruises. Cupping not only helps against the orange peel, it also boosts our metabolism positively.

Massage oil

A suitable oil can be quickly made by mixing 100 milliliters of neutral carrier oil such as almond, olive or wheat germ oil with 20 to 30 drops of essential oil. Citrus oils, such as grapefruit, lime or orange, are particularly suitable for firming and stimulating the metabolism. The "specialist" for weak connective tissue in aromatherapy is also known as the "Virginia juniper", especially when it is used in conjunction with cypress oil.

A good choice can also be the so-called "argan oil", which is obtained from the seeds of the yellow berry fruit of the argan tree and is known to keep the skin smooth and supple. Essential rosemary oil is also often used for massage, as it stimulates the blood circulation and has a skin-tightening effect. In general, however, to avoid skin irritation, the oils should not be used neat, but instead should always be diluted with a neutral base oil.

Ivy oil

Ivy oil can be produced inexpensively, it only takes a few weeks to brew. To do this, defoliate a hand-sized tuft of tendrils, then shred the leaves in a household blender or with a herb hoe. Then clean the household mixer thoroughly, as ivy must not be distorted raw. Mix the crushed ivy with 350 ml of vegetable oil, let it darken in a screw-top jar for four weeks. Sunflower oil is selected for oily skin and olive oil for dry skin. Then strain the oil, for example through a coffee filter or discarded tights. Ivy promotes blood circulation, skin tightening and purifying. As an oil, it can be used wonderfully for massage.


This is applied externally in the form of an ointment or a gel directly to the affected skin areas and thus not only helps with cellulite and stretch marks, but also for example against wrinkles and bruises. In order to improve the elasticity of the skin, silica has also proven itself as a nutritional supplement in the form of tablets or capsules. In addition, many other problems such as brittle nails or brittle hair can be remedied in this way.

Alternating baths

Applications from hydrotherapy such as simple alternating showers according to Kneipp can also help to improve the skin structure. Because the change between warm and cold water has a circulation-enhancing effect and makes the skin look firmer and plumper. However, it is important to be careful in order not to strain the circulation unnecessarily and to avoid negative consequences for health. If there is an infection, you should avoid it. In addition, the temperature should not be too cold or too hot, so that the weakened connective tissue is not further burdened.

Instead, you should start with cool water, starting with the right foot and slowly showering the right leg up to the hip. Then the left side is processed in the same way. Then the whole thing is done with warm water. In total, the change should be repeated three to five times and finished with a cold pour so that the vessels can contract again at the end.

In addition to that, alkaline baths are an effective home remedy for cellulite and have been used for centuries to naturally and gently rid the body of toxins and slags. Soda is often used here because it increases the pH of the bathing water and thereby stimulates the body to deacidify. Accordingly, basic body care can quickly result in the affected areas on the thighs and buttocks appearing smoother and the skin feeling softer overall.
The application is quick and uncomplicated by adding 100 grams of soda powder to a full bath with a maximum of 37 degrees warm water. Now you should bathe at a constant temperature for at least 40 minutes, since the process of deacidification only begins after about 30 minutes. Even if the bath has a very beneficial effect, it means a certain effort for the body. It is therefore advisable to rest a little afterwards and to drink plenty of water or tea. In general, it is advisable not to bathe alkaline more than once or twice a week, anyone suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease or diabetes should also consult with a doctor in advance.


The birch is a tried and tested medicinal plant that was used thousands of years ago. The saponins, salicylic acid compounds, flavonoids and tannins contained in the tree purify the blood and drain the body.

As a bath additive, 100 grams of the fresh leaves can be brewed with a liter of water. Let this tea steep for at least 15 minutes. Now pour into the pure bath water and enjoy the herbal bath for a maximum of 20 minutes.

As a tea cure (a small handful of fresh leaves on a liter of water), the birch - drunk over several weeks - can significantly improve the complexion. In addition, birch oil against the unsightly dents is commercially available.

Birch sap

So-called “birch sap”, which is obtained from maple trees similar to maple syrup, is particularly valuable. This requires a wooden drill, a straw that matches the diameter, a collecting vessel (no metal) and tree wax. A stately birch is drilled horizontally two to three centimeters deep, blow the borehole freely. The straw placed there serves as a line for the tree sap to the collecting vessel. A maximum of 2.5 liters of liquid should be removed from the tree so that it is not damaged.

If enough juice has escaped, the tree wound must be carefully closed with suitable tree resin. During dry periods, the birch should not be drilled, as this could damage it. This juice can be used internally. A maximum of 100 milliliters are drunk per day. It not only helps to detoxify the skin, but also against rheumatism. Likewise, the juice can be dabbed externally onto the areas affected by cellulite using a rag or cotton ball.

Sea salt as a bath and peeling

A sea salt bath activates blood circulation and metabolism and removes excess water from the tissue. To do this, run a full bath at 38 degrees, stir in about a kilo of sea salt from the drugstore or pharmacy and bathe in it for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Alternatively, a sea salt peeling is a proven application for orange peel, because the salt can remove old skin flakes and remove toxins and the skin is visibly smoothed. For this, four tablespoons of good quality sea salt are mixed with a tablespoon of oil (e.g. olive, coconut or almond oil). The peeling is then massaged into the affected areas of the skin with a hand or a special glove while showering and rinsed thoroughly with warm water.

Parsley tea

Parsley has a draining effect on the metabolism. With its help, stored water can be effectively drained out of the body. For such a tea, pour a small spoonful of chopped parsley with 250 milliliters of water. The tea should be drunk over a long period of time.

Apple cider vinegar cure

Fruit vinegar is an all-round home remedy. A teaspoon of good apple cider vinegar mixed with a glass of lukewarm water and drunk in the morning before breakfast - this boosts your metabolism. The vinegar has a detoxifying and purifying effect, the toxins accumulated in the connective tissue are virtually flushed out by it. A glass of vinegar mixture should be drunk two to three times a day. It contains many basic minerals. The cure must be used continuously for at least a month to see success.

The fruit vinegar is also suitable for external use. For this purpose, three teaspoons are mixed with a teaspoon of body cream and a cotton pad dipped in it is used to moisten the affected areas. The mixture does not have to be washed off, the smell should evaporate in the air after a short time.

Potato wrap

A warm potato wrap can also help reduce the annoying dents. For this, three to four boiled potatoes are crushed and distributed on the thighs, buttocks, upper arms or belly as required. Then the mass is fixed with cling film or a cotton towel, left on the skin for about an hour and then also washed off thoroughly.

Coffee grounds

A proven and inexpensive home remedy is cold or lukewarm coffee grounds, because this also stimulates the blood circulation and has a draining effect. In addition, coffee activates the metabolism, which promotes fat loss and can therefore be a useful support for cellulite. For the application, three tablespoons of coffee grounds are mixed with a tablespoon of olive oil and massaged into the skin of the affected parts of the body after a shower. After about three minutes, the mixture is rinsed off, with cold and warm water alternately boosting the blood circulation.

If you want to enhance the effect, you can wrap the body areas covered with coffee grounds with transparent film. However, you should make sure that the wraps are not too tight. After about 30 minutes, the film is removed and the coffee grounds are rinsed off. Depending on your preference, the process can be repeated several times.

Ginger water

Ginger is also a silver bullet in the fight against cellulite. As tea or infusion, it helps us to get the rusty metabolism going again. Due to the increased metabolism, the orange peel can slowly recede and the increased burn effect makes it easier to lose extra pounds. The ginger can be poured freshly into slices with hot water, there are also extracts and pure ginger juice in stores. Of course, the valuable tuber can also be used for cooking and can be enjoyed fresh with meals.

Schüßler salts for cellulite

Schuessler salts can be an effective support to combat the dents on the legs, stomach, hips and arms. Since connective tissue is weak in many cases, care should be taken when choosing the right salt to ensure that it has a firming and firming effect. Silicea (No. 11), which is also known in conventional medicine as “silica” and is considered the salt of the skin, hair, nails and connective tissue, is therefore particularly suitable.

In addition to silicea, salts are good, which have a positive effect on the metabolism. This includes in particular sodium phosphoricum (salt no. 9), which can be used for health problems due to acidification. It ensures a balance of acids and bases and stimulates the metabolism. In addition, it is said to reduce the craving for sweets and fats, among other things, and is therefore considered to be a good aid in reducing excess weight and increasing blood fat levels.

In addition, salts that can regulate the fluid balance, such as sodium chloride or table salt (No. 8) or sodium sulfuricum (No. 10), are important for firm, smooth skin. Salt No. 19 (Cuprum arsenicosum) is suitable for building up collagen and elastin in the connective tissue. In addition, for example, calcium fluoratum (No. 1) for the elasticity of the fibers and Calcium sulfuricum (No. 12) for improved permeability of the connective tissue can be used.

Lose extra pounds
